The Wing Drama Club presents...
PETER PAN
“Drama is...
one part concentration,
one part imagination,
and one part presentation”

and one part presentation”

The Wing Drama Club had a blast working on and performing PETER PAN this year. This version of Peter Pan was first performed at Wing in 1993 starring Mrs. Novero’s daughter, Caitlin, as Peter Pan. We thought it would be a good choice for our final Wing Drama Club performance.
The students made all the scenery were in charge of sound, lights, back stage, etc. Participating in Drama helps students build self-confidence, it increases their ability to think on their feet, and to work together with others to create a final product. Every child that participated in the show felt like a star and gained skills and memories that will stay with them for a long time! Congratulations for a job well done, Drama Club! Keep Flying!
We can’t wait to see you soar!

Remarks are always made for those who have served 25 years or more. Below are those shared that evening.
Suzanne Budzynkiewicz
Suzanne Budzynkiewicz began teaching in Sandwich in 1989 after a 2 hour interview in the basement of the 27 building with the Special Education Director! This is actually her 32nd year of teaching, having taught for seven years in New Jersey.
Mrs. Budzynkiewicz has been a K-3 and 5th grade special education teacher working with colleagues in inclusion classes, as well as in a self contained resource room setting ‘back in the day.” She also taught in the ILC as a Special Needs Teacher. She is certified as a Wilson Teacher, a Reading Recovery teacher, a Special Needs teacher, and a district mentor. She has worked under the direction of five Special Education directors and seven Principals in Sandwich over the years. One of those principals told her that she and the classroom teacher were “models for the state of Massachusetts for their collaboration during the first year of inclusion.”
She has changed rooms at least eight times and schools twice. When Forestdale and Oak Ridge were in the process of being built, everyone was at Wing. Suzanne remembers teachers were given moving boxes to pack their belongings. Over a long weekend in January, a moving company moved half of Wing to Forestdale and half of Wing to Oak Ridge for the remainder of the year while Wing was renovated. Mrs. Budzynkiewicz went to Forestdale and then back to Wing where she has been ever since. She figures she is an expert on moving! So if the district is looking for some help with the move this spring and summer…Mrs. Budzynkiewicz is your gal! On the morning of the last day of school one year, she unexpectedly had to be packed and out of her room by noon as her room was going to be the new district Special Education offices. She still had several IEPs that had to be written before days end. At the time, all IEPs were handwritten on 3 copies deep of carbon paper and were 8-12 pages long. A colleague and a class of third graders graciously moved her belongings while she worked at her desk in the middle of the room writing IEPs. They were done an hour before schedule! She has come full circle and is now back in those two rooms teaching Reading Recovery to first graders.
Suzanne has “tried her best” over the years to change with technology. She began her career using hand cranked ditto machines, and then graduated to electric ditto machines. She began teaching when movie projectors that “you threaded the actual plastic film through” were all the rage. She progressed to film strip projectors with hot light bulbs and then, overhead projectors– the “must have” technology of the day. Suzanne recalls when the few big chunky desk top computers came to the Wing School. When she needed to type an IEP, she would travel to the old home economics room in 7th and 8th grade and hope no one else was using the one computer for the whole Special Education department. Now she has a laptop and credits our technology integration teacher Terri Palombo for teaching her how to use Evernote and other programs that support children.
For the past 6 years Suzanne has been a Reading Recovery and a Leveled Literacy Instruction teacher. She also teaches summer school every year and has tutored many children who struggle and then soar because of her good work. She is highly regarded by her peers and supervisors for her clear, concise and thorough ability to know and understand what a child’s academic issues are, and how to address them, especially in reading. She knows the power Reading Recovery has to change the lives of children, and she has never been happier teaching. Every day she “gets to work with professional colleagues whose teaching she is in awe of.” She gets to be a part of teaching a child to read! Teaching a child to read! That is what keeps her young at heart and loving her job.
Suzanne loves teaching students and even more – she loves her life in Sandwich with her husband of 34 years, Peter, and her daughter Emily, a graduate of the Sandwich Public Schools. Congratulations to Suzanne Budzynkiewicz for 25 years of service to the Sandwich Public Schools.

Jon Kerr
When Jon Kerr first started in education, he was a substitute teacher in school districts from Dennis to Plymouth. He thought if he got a fourth grade position in Sandwich at the Henry T. Wing School, it would be a dream come true. Well, fortunately for us, it did come true. Jon taught fourth grade for the first twenty-two years of his career along side Nancy Names, his professional partner for fifteen of those years in the 27 building. Since that time, Jon has been teaching mostly science and social studies in the sixth grade. He says his fourth and sixth grade colleagues have enriched his instruction and contributed to his raising the bar for himself as an educator.
Here are some memorable moments from Mr. Kerr’s past 25 years as told by his colleagues:
One of Mr. Kerr’s biggest accomplishments is being recognized by The New England Waterworks Association for his outstanding commitment to drinking water education.
Finally and most importantly, Mr. Kerr wants you all to know that the “Wing School Family” has been “unbelievably supportive” to him throughout his health issues in the last twelve years. He wants his colleagues to know that their love and support have greatly touched him and his loved ones. Mr. Kerr’s wife and children will never forget how much kindness and love were given to them during very stressful and scary times. The amount of care and compassion he was shown has touched him deeply and as he said…“Is in my heart forever.”
Congratulations to Jon Kerr for 25 years of service to the Sandwich Public Schools.

Here are some memorable moments from Mr. Kerr’s past 25 years as told by his colleagues:
- Some of Mr. Kerr’s most memorable curriculum projects included the student created Hot Air Balloons, and Earthquake Houses. Mr. Kerr is a gentle giant great with all of the kids, and especially those who share his love of fishing! He reaches them in his firm but kind way. The kids adored him. For those of you not in the know, Mr. Kerr is 6’5″ tall! One little 4th grader went home the first day of school and told his parents he had a giant for a teacher! Many of his fourth-grade graduates often come back to visit and reconnect with him and tell him how they are doing.
- Mr. Kerr is a good Yankee, who never wastes anything. One day he decided that he could use some old lunch trays that were in the old boiler room under the 27 building. During his prep period, he went in to get them and the door locked behind him. No one knew he was in there for about an hour or so, until a custodian heard him calling for a rescue!
- Mr. Kerr has been composting and gardening for many years. “Back in the day,” he used to bring in plants and grow them under heating lamps in his 4th grade classroom. One day Mrs. Names was in Jon’s room teaching and noticed movement coming from the direction of Mr. Kerr’s potted plants. A snake slithered out of the pot, eyeing the class, and swaying back and forth like a cobra! It was actually a little garden snake. By the time calm was restored the snake was nowhere to be found. It had slithered into the ventilating system and was captured a few days later in Mr. RigordaEva’s room, curled up near her desk…much to the disappointment of the kids. They loved the drama of a snake on the loose.
One of Mr. Kerr’s biggest accomplishments is being recognized by The New England Waterworks Association for his outstanding commitment to drinking water education.

Congratulations to Jon Kerr for 25 years of service to the Sandwich Public Schools.
Cathy Lemay
Deb Landry, Principal at Henry T. Wing, prepared these remarks to honor Mrs. Lemay.
Cathy Lemay admits she is notoriously late for everything! But who she is and what she brings of herself to her colleagues and the children of Sandwich is always worth the wait.
Mrs. Lemay says she is fortunate to be one of the lucky people that can say, “I love my job!” She can’t imagine doing anything else, except maybe starring on Broadway!
Mrs. Lemay began in Sandwich as a Special Education Teacher for her first 3 years of teaching, when Wing was the only elementary school and as she says… “We were all crammed in there!!” She has worked at the Wing School more than half of her life. When Wing was to be renovated in the early 1990s, students and staff were split into the newly built schools, so she went to Forestdale for a short period.
For the past 21 years Mrs. Lemay has taught in grade 3 except for one year in 4th when she looped with her class. This fall she went back to Special Education and works primarily with 4th and 6th grade students.
Some of Mrs. Lemay’s personal favorite teaching moments include:
Here are some thoughts from her colleagues: (Get her some tissues quick!)
Mrs. Lemay is an exceptionally talented and creative person- in her writing, singing, creating, and sense of humor and fun.Mrs. Lemay can make up a song in seconds; she is the author of the modern Wing School theme song.
Mrs. Lemay is an amazing teacher, so full of passion after twenty five years with even more knowledge and many talents to help her students grow. She honors their gifts and sees them as having individual genius which she cultivates and encourages in each child. Mrs. Lemay has changed lives while teaching in Sandwich. Her students love her for her patience and love of them, all the while maintaining high standards as she integrates music, dance, and the arts to “make learning come alive”. She has shared her personal talents as a thespian with the children at Wing.
Cathy Lemay is truly here for the kids. Every question always comes back to what is best for the child. She always uncovers her student’s talents and embraces their uniqueness Most importantly she cares about their hearts.
Mrs. Lemay is one of the most amazing Special Education teachers one can ever worked with. She treats each child as if they are her own. She sees the “whole” person….she lives and breaths ALL of their needs…and not just the ones on IEPs. She is inspiring, and such a fantastic mentor and role model.
Mrs. Lemay embodies all of the qualities you would want your own child to have for a teacher. She blends learning with fun and enriching activities that her students never forget. Whether teaching a student to ride a bike, using her prep. time to help a child learn to play the recorder, writing back and forth to former students, or bringing in clothes to help families…, she goes the extra mile to support her students.
Cathy Lemay is not just an amazing teacher; she is a person who looks for the positive in all situations. She doesn’t waste her time complaining, instead she takes action. She wants to see the big picture and help to make changes that benefit everyone, especially our students.
Cathy Lemay represents those that honor history, and those who have made it, but welcomes and thrives on change. She is constantly thinking, changing, and adapting while wearing her heart on her sleeve for those people, children, and causes she cares deeply for. Leadership and collaboration are qualities that come easily to her.
On a lighter note, she can turn any lesson into a song or can find a song to fit any lesson. She is known for her LOVE of chocolate and is known to keep hidden stashes in special places. She is lots of fun and never takes herself too seriously. She can laugh at herself and is always upbeat! She is such a pleasure to be around!
As she reflects back on these years she is realizing that, “in fact, it has been the children that have been the constant” in her life, other than her Mom, children and husband all who are loved and cherished by her beyond words…and we all know how hard it is to render Mrs. Lemay speechless.
Cathy Lemay is one of the hearts and souls of the Wing School and will be remembered in its history for her smile, love of children, and the passion that she pours into everything she does. Congratulations to her for 25 years of service to the Sandwich Public Schools.

- frequently needing her students or any other adults in the room to be “back-up” readers because she cries at the end of poignant read alouds;
- “ Wearing PJ’s to work for Pajama Day is a favorite. What other professions get to do this?;”
- She enjoyed working under the leadership of Principal Matt Bridges for 15 years (She says she would incriminate herself if she shared some of the crazy things she did then);
- Along with Elena Novero, she directed many young thespians in the Wing Theater Club;
- Mrs. Lemay has a passion for poetry and Responsive Classroom;
- She also treasures all the laughs she has shared with colleagues!
